Back in March, Elon Musk posted a poll on Twitter asking if anyone was interested in the concept of a “mega rave cave” below Giga Berlin – the new European Gigafactory currently under construction about 20 miles (32 km) south-east of the German capital. 90.2% of the 773,000 respondents from his gigantic 36.8 million people following responded with a “hell yes!”

On July 14, Musk brought the idea up again when he shared an aerial view of a 3D rendering of what the 92-hectare factory site could look like when it begins operating in 2021. In the image, the massive building is topped with rows of solar panels (from which much of the electricity used will be drawn) and surrounded by expanses of trees on all sides.

Plus, the facility was hinted in a comment to have a secret feature that would be a German techno enthusiasts dream come true – especially a Tesla worker.

It said:

Might be an indoor/outdoor rave space on the roof.

Giga Berlin will assemble Tesla’s Model Y crossover and powertrains and batteries for its broader line-up of vehicles. It is expected to employ over 10,000 people, with workers scheduled around the clock split between three daily shifts.

When Musk was scouting locations on the continent, he finally opted for Germany because the country is known for its outstanding engineering. He said:

Everyone knows that German engineering is outstanding, for sure — that’s part of the reason why we are locating our Gigafactory Europe in Germany. We are also going to create an engineering and design center in Berlin because Berlin has some of the best art in the world.

However, it hasn’t exactly been smooth sailing through the construction process of the manufacturing plant. The company has experienced several setbacks due to environmental protests regarding deforestation and concerns about drinking water supplies. The German court even ordered Tesla to cease construction only to lift the freeze a few weeks later.

Tesla may also be building a second European Gigafactory in the UK. he UK government even helped with finding a suitable location for the new production facility.
